Overview

Five days, four unforgettable chapters: climb the Lion Rock at Sigiriya, walk into Dambulla’s golden cave temples, feel the drums of Kandy and finish on the palm-fringed south-west coast at Bentota and Galle Fort.

Short on time but not on curiosity? This 5-day, 4-night escape distils Sri Lanka into a seamless loop from the airport — ancient kingdoms, sacred Kandy and the sunny south-west coast — with a private chauffeur guide taking care of every mile.

You begin in the Cultural Triangle with a climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the 5th-century sky palace that is Sri Lanka’s most famous sight. Next come the painted caves of Dambulla and the hill capital of Kandy, home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and a thrilling evening of Kandyan dance. Then the road runs down to the coast: a mangrove boat ride on the river at Bentota, a visit to a turtle hatchery and a sunset stroll on the ramparts of Galle Fort, a living UNESCO-listed town.

At a glance

  • Snorkelling or diving at Hikkaduwa or Unawatuna — coral gardens and turtles a short drive from Galle

  • Pinnawala — a stop between Kandy and the coast on request

Itinerary

  1. 1

Our representative welcomes you at Bandaranaike International Airport and your chauffeur guide drives you north into the Cultural Triangle. In the afternoon, climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress — the “Lion Rock” — past its frescoed maidens and giant lion paws to the palace ruins on the summit. Check in to your hotel, relax, and spend the night in Sigiriya.

  2. 2

After breakfast, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, where five caves glow with golden Buddha statues and murals painted over two thousand years. Continue into the hills to Kandy, the last royal capital, and end the day with a Kandyan cultural dance show of drummers, acrobats and fire-walkers. Overnight in Kandy.

  3. 3

Start the morning at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Lanka’s most revered shrine, then stroll the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya with their orchid house and avenue of royal palms. An optional stop at Pinnawala can be added on the way. Descend to the south-west coast and check in at Bentota for a relaxed evening by the sea.

  4. 4

Glide through the mangrove channels of the Bentota river by boat, then visit a turtle hatchery where rescued eggs are protected until the hatchlings return to the sea. Continue south to Galle Fort to wander its ramparts, lighthouse and boutique-lined streets as the sun goes down. Overnight in Galle or back in Bentota.

All questions

Every journey is private and built around you, so the price depends on your travel dates, group size, the hotel class you choose (from comfortable 2-star to luxury 5-star) and any experiences you add. Send us an enquiry and we will reply with a detailed, no-obligation quote — usually within 24 hours.

Choose a package (or ask us to design one), and we will send a quote and a draft itinerary. Once you are happy, we confirm your hotels and ask for a deposit to secure them; the balance is due before or on arrival, as stated on your confirmation.

Yes — every package is a starting point. Add or drop destinations, swap a safari park, extend your beach days, upgrade hotels or change the overall length; we re-plan the route and travel times so the journey still flows.

Our packages include accommodation, breakfast and dinner daily, a private air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur guide, airport transfers, fuel, tolls and parking, plus the experiences listed under “What’s included” on each tour. Flights, visas, entrance tickets unless listed, lunches, drinks and tips are not included.

Cancellation terms depend on how close to travel you cancel and on the hotels booked; they are set out clearly in your quote before you pay anything. We always recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation.
